Garden Dome Delivery and Installation in the UK: What to Expect

Quick answer

Buy from UK stock and your dome arrives without import duties or long lead times. GeoDomeX domes come from our Brighton warehouse with free next-day delivery to eligible UK destinations when you order by 2pm, Monday to Friday, and base delivery can take longer. Most owners build it themselves in an afternoon or a day: individually numbered panels bolted together, no specialist tools. Or our Built for you installers build and anchor it after delivery, within 14 working days (5 with Express).

Why "where it ships from" matters more than buyers expect

Many garden domes sold online are shipped from overseas. That can mean weeks of lead time, surprise import duties and customs handling fees on delivery, and little or no UK-based support if a panel is damaged or missing. Buying from UK stock avoids an international freight wait and import charges on UK deliveries, and makes local after-sales support easier to reach. GeoDomeX holds stock at our Brighton warehouse and delivers from UK stock with no import duties on UK deliveries, with a free next-day service to eligible destinations when you order by 2pm, Monday to Friday, so the price you see is the price you pay.

What delivery looks like

  • Delivery: free next-day delivery to eligible UK destinations from UK stock when you order by 2pm, Monday to Friday, with no waiting on international freight. If you're somewhere remote, check delivery for your postcode at checkout.
  • Bases: if you've ordered one of our bases, check its separate delivery estimate; bases can take longer than the dome.
  • Packaging: panels arrive individually numbered and engraved, packed for transit, with the connectors, anchoring brackets, step-by-step guide and your free Ambient LED lighting kit.
  • On arrival: check off every component against the parts list before your build day. It's a sensible habit, so any transit damage is sorted before you plan to use the dome.

Installation: a day, not a project

A geodesic dome sounds complex; in practice a GeoDomeX dome is designed for self-assembly:

  1. Prepare the base. The dome needs a level, firm base but no permanent footings: level ground such as a patio for a Mini or Standard, or one of our platform or decking bases. The Large sits on its wooden decking base.
  2. Lay out the numbered panels. Each panel is engraved with its number, so the sequence is clear, and the step-by-step guide takes you through it.
  3. Bolt it together. The panels are bolted together with nuts and bolts, with no specialist tools, no specialist installer and no building crew.
  4. Anchor it. Secure the dome with the anchoring brackets supplied; Ultra and Extreme come with stainless steel bolts, nuts and anchors. Properly anchored, the dome is engineered for strength in wind and snow, and our guide to anchoring a garden dome covers the methods.
  5. Done in an afternoon or a day. Most owners finish a Mini or Standard in 4-6 hours and the Large in 8-12 hours.

You can do it with a helper (two people make it easier), and there's no need for a "dome expert".

Prefer us to build it? Choose our Built for you service and our installers will build and anchor your dome. It's booked after delivery, and we install within 14 working days, or within 5 with Express. Anchoring only starts from £249, and the base, dome and anchoring from £999 for a Mini or Standard (from £1,995 for a Large). We check your postcode first, and some regions carry extended-area pricing.

Do you need planning permission or building work?

Usually not, but check before you build. A garden dome of this size is usually permitted development, so most domestic installs don't need planning permission. Rules depend on size, height, siting near boundaries and whether you're in a conservation area or a listed property, and they differ in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, so confirm with your local planning authority; our planning permission guide explains the detail. Building regulations don't usually apply to a small detached garden room either (in England, keep the 19.6 m² Large at least 1 m from the boundary), but sleeping accommodation, electrics or a wood burner can bring them into scope. A dome is a garden room, not a dwelling. And with no permanent footings, there's no major groundwork project.

After-sales: the UK advantage

If something's damaged in transit or you have a question, a UK supplier with UK stock can send a replacement panel quickly. GeoDomeX offers 30-day returns for eligible unused goods in their original condition, lifetime access to replacement parts and a 1, 3 or 5-year warranty depending on the specification: the kind of support that's hard to get from an overseas marketplace seller.

Frequently asked questions

How is a garden dome delivered in the UK?

From a UK-stocked supplier, it arrives as packed, numbered panels with the fixings and anchoring brackets, with no international freight wait and no import duties. GeoDomeX delivery is free and next-day to eligible UK destinations when you order by 2pm, Monday to Friday, and base delivery can take longer than the dome.

Do I need a professional to install a garden dome?

No. GeoDomeX domes arrive as individually numbered panels that are bolted together with nuts and bolts and no specialist tools. If you'd rather not build it yourself, our Built for you service can build and anchor it for you.

How long does it take to put up a garden dome?

Most owners build it in an afternoon or a day: 4-6 hours for the Mini or Standard and 8-12 hours for the Large, with two people making it easier.

Will I have to pay import duties or customs charges?

Not with a UK-stocked supplier. GeoDomeX delivers from UK stock at our Brighton warehouse, so there are no import duties. Domes shipped from overseas may attract duties.

Does a garden dome need foundations?

No permanent footings, but it does need a level, firm base, such as a level patio or one of our bases (the Large sits on its wooden decking base). The dome is then secured with the anchoring brackets supplied.
